Congratulations to Orlando Women and Naples/Coconut Grove Women - who represented Florida well this weekend in the 2008 DII Women’s National Tournament hosted in Sanford, FL.
Orlando came into DII Women’s Nationals ranked 7th, Naples/Coconut Grove came in ranked 8th.
After a weekend of three matches, Orlando moved up to become ranked 3rd in the nation. In their first match of the weekend, Orlando upset the #2 ranked team the Village Lions from NY. It was an excellent showing for ORL’s 1st time at the DII National Tournament — congrats to Orlando Women!
Naples/Coconut Grove Women came into Nationals ranked 8th, and upset the #1 seed NOVA in their first match of the day. This is Naples 4th year to qualify and compete at the National level. Congrats to Naples/Coconut Grove Women!
The match for 3rd and 4th place pitted the two South teams against each other once again… with Orlando beating Naples 15 - 13 in an excellent match. (Ironically, all Final games Sunday had teams facing off against their home Territory competitor.)
It was a great weekend of women’s rugby, and marked the 1st time the DII Women’s event was hosted in conjunction with the DI Women’s Nationals.
