Jim Millar

| Originally from Salisbury, North Carolina, Jim Millar attended Appalachian State with the Army ROTC footing the bill. After graduation and training, he was assigned to Fort Campbell on the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Eventually he was recruited to the Fort’s rugby team.
Leaving the army, Millar took work in Charlotte, NC and found his niche with a new club, the Charlotte Gargoyles where he continued to develop his forward skills. During a trip with the Gargoyles to Hilton Head Island, SC, he met Lee Coulter of Orlando where his company would later transfer him. Once in Orlando, Coulter introduced him to the ORFC where he was welcomed as would be anyone who enthusiastically admitted to being a second row. With leadership lessons learned from the army and strong opinions as to how a rugby club should operate, Millar soon became club President. Millar served two separate terms as President and the ORFC prospered as his administrative prowess was matched by his play on the pitch. As President, Millar was reminiscent of Tressie in that he looked beyond today’s match to the future of the club. For years Jim Millar represented the ORFC as the quintessential club member and earned his place in the Hall of Fame. |
