The Orlando Women will host NOVA (NOrthern VirginiA) this years National Women’s Sevens Champions. This is the women’s only home match of the fall so come out and support them on the newly resurfaced Lorna Doone field as they get ready for the playoffs.

The Orlando Men will take on UCF in a friendly this Saturday September 11th. Come support the men in the morning before heading over to the women’s only home game of the season.

Players: Be at the field no later than 9am. If you are late, you’ll lose your spot!

Kickoff Party

The kickoff the season party is this weekend August 21. The party is being held at Rick Higgins “Hick Rick” house(1712 S. Ferncreek Ave Orlando, FL 32806). We are hoping for everyone to attend, please bring your family. There is a swimming pool. The club will be providing a keg of beer and food (Hamburgers/Hot Dogs). If you would like something different to eat or drink please bring it. Also, please bring your own chair. Looking forward to seeing all the old boys, women’s team, and men’s team. This will be a great time to socialize and get to know the new club members.

A reminder to everyone that our 2nd annual Kickoff the Season Party is almost here. We will be meeting and socializing at Hick Ricks home(1712 S. Ferncreek Ave Orlando, FL 32806) on August 21st, starting at 1pm. The club will provide food and a keg of beer. We are looking forward to everyone coming out.

Those that are interested a group is getting together Saturday August 14th to run a 5k in Orlando.

Great news! Pine Street Bar & Grill (PSBG) is the latest and greatest ORFC Sponsor. Along with the ORFC Member Benefits (see below), PSBG is open to a long term relationship and has agreed to allow us to begin “decorating” the bar with ORFC Memorabilia from both recent seasons as well as seasons past. Already, we have an old Iron Horse team photo on the wall and are looking to “compliment” that very quickly with some additional ORFC team/game photos. Hello Everyone,

The season is fast approaching and that means its another good reason to socialize. The club will be hosting its 2nd annual Kick Off the Season party on August 21st starting at 1 pm. The locatation of the social is at Hick Rick house (1712 S. Ferncreek Ave Orlando, FL 32806). The club will provide one keg and food. We would love to see all current women and men players, as well as old boys.

The women will have their first match on September 11th. The social will follow the game at Pine St. Bar and Grill, which is located downtown on Pine St. Please mark your calender to attend and support the women.

Those that are interested, I would like to get a group together to run in the 5k on August 14th. If you would like information regarding the race log on to www.trackshack.com. Please let me know who would be interested.

I am tentatively scheduling a Mullet and Denim Pub Crawl for September 25th. More information to follow.

Also looking to have a bowling night October 9th. More information to follow.

USRFF’s A Ball 4 All Campaign rescheduled for September 1

Help the USRFF Provide 30,000 Rugby Balls to America’s Rugby Youth

Due to the huge interest in the Pepsi Refresh Project and the large number of submissions for August, the United States Rugby Football Foundation’s A Ball 4 All campaign has been rescheduled. The new projected start date will be Wednesday, September 1, 2010.

The new start date may actually be a blessing in disguise as it will give the USRFF an extra 30 days to plan on how to receive as many votes as possible. It will also give you more time to reach out to your friends and family within and outside your rugby circle to support the A Ball 4 All initiative.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Having heard from hundreds of you, I knew many of you were chomping on the bit to cast your votes only to have to wait another 30 days. It’s kind of like being all keyed up for the kickoff of a match only to be told the game has been delayed 30 minutes due to an unforeseen circumstance.

Please be assured that we will do everything in our power to guarantee a September 1^st launch date for the A Ball 4 All campaign. We will once again whet your whistle with a testimonies from past and present international players towards the end of August in preparation of the September campaign.

Help the USRFF Provide 30,000 Rugby Balls to America’s Youth

The United States Rugby Football Foundation has provided rugby balls to over 500 teams and schools in the past six years. Now we are looking to help the individual player by providing a rugby ball to each of the 30,000 youth and high school players that are playing the game in the US.

And we are going to try to accomplish that without asking for any money from anyone. All we are asking from you is your daily vote in August.

The USRFF will be submitting a proposal called A Ball 4 All to the Pepsi Refresh Project on August 1. We are seeking their top dollar award of $250,000 and will be successful if we are one of the top two vote getters in that category at the end of the day on Tuesday, August 31. I’m sure we will be up against some very stiff competition so we are asking all of you and all of your players, teammates and friends for their help. Each person will have the opportunity to vote one time per day.

If we are fortunate enough to win the $250,000, every cent of that award will be used towards the purchase of 30,000 rugby balls.

How much better would our young rugby players be if they all had a rugby ball to call their own? How many more kids would be introduced to the sport if they saw their friends tossing around a rugby ball in the yard or park? If our rugby youth had their own rugby balls they wouldn’t have to wait for the next training session to get their hands on one to pass or kick around. If they had their own ball they would be able to pick it up and practice their skills anytime they wanted.

The Rugby Foundation will be sending out frequent reminders to those already in our database. We will also be sending out reminders to those on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Please be patient during the month of August when you receive your reminders. By the end of the month you may never want to see another email from me but please take a few minutes to read the reminders and cast your vote for A Ball 4 All. To keep those reminders fresh, we will be featuring testimonials from many current and former US Eagles players and coaches as well as current and former internationals.

Here’s your chance to help grow the sport in the US without making a financial obligation. In addition to all of the wonderful attributes that rugby provides today’s youth like leadership, sacrifice, commitment, and teamwork, many of today’s high school players could very well be on our 2016 and 2020 US Olympic Rugby teams and future Rugby World Cup teams.
