Donations for Tampa Krewe

May 27th, 2010

Rugby Family,

I hope this email finds you well.

Last weekend in Columbia, South Carolina the Tampa Krewe won both games in the Sweet 16 and now have advanced to the National Final 4 June 5th and 6th in Glendale, Colorado. This is an amazing experience and we are humbled by the honor to represent the South and Florida in the last round of the National Tournament.

With this being said it is quite an undertaking. Now we need to find a way to get 28 players and the training and coaching staffs to Colorado. We have been playing and training since August and this is the third long trip that we have made in the playoffs, the first two were to South Carolina, only 3 weeks apart.

I know the economy is tough right now but I am reaching out to you to see if you can help. We are doing are best to finance this, but we need our rugby family now more than ever! No amount is too small and you have no idea how much we will appreciate this! If you are able to help there are a couple of ways to do this:

Option 1:
Use our PayPal account… go to: www.krewerugby.com and click the donate button in the lower right corner of the front page
Option2:
Contact me either by email: gootwin@hotmail.com or by phone at 813-841-4913 and we can make arrangements

Rugby is the greatest sport in the world, the closeness, the camaraderie that we share is absolutely unparalleled and we will do our best to bring the trophy home!!!

Thank you,
Michael “Goodie” Goodwin

IRB & USA RUGBY – LEVEL 1 REFEREE COURSE

April 26th, 2010

Location: UCF, Orlando, FL

Date: Saturday,  June 5, 2010

Time: 9am to 5pm

Cost: Course Fee $50

The Florida Rugby Referees Association (FRRA) will offer the Level 1 Officiating Course which is the basic refereeing course.  There are no prerequisites for attending this course and it is the sole training vehicle for the education of entry level referees as certified USA Rugby referees.  The Level One Course covers the referee’s priorities, provides an introduction to the Laws, and examines scrums, ruck/mauls, tackles, lineout’s, offside, and advantage with focus on the critical parts and how to referee them.  When a student has completed this course, and the accompanying test which will be administered on the day, they are ready to begin refereeing safely.  Students that do not pass will be given opportunities to retest onsite.  The objective is to ensure Law knowledge and to assure that the understanding of the course material has been met.

However, this is just the first step in a referee’s education, but it is the necessary beginning.  The course by itself is useful for coaches and players, in addition to the primary goal of starting people as referees. Students who pass the examination and then become active referees will be reimbursed the Course Fee by Florida Rugby Union (FRU) after they have refereed a minimum of five matches.

Individuals who are registered with USA Rugby (CIPP’ed), may register and pay online by going to the site www.usarugby.org click Enter Site, Referees, Register for a Referee Training Course [go to the date and site you wish to register for].  If you are not currently a USA Rugby member, you will be offered a chance to register.  Please send the course educator an email that you have registered online.  All others may register on site.

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY to assure the proper amount of course material is available!  Walk-ins are welcome.

LOCATION: UCF Campus, Orlando, building # 88 which is the UCF Recreation and Wellness Center, Room # 206, located near the rugby fields.

Contact Gerry FitzGerald (Course Educator) rugbyreffl@aol.com to register.
